Netflix is not ready to hang up the White House phone just yet. The streaming giant has confirmed that “The Night Agent” will return for a fourth season, a decision that arrives shortly after the third installment debuted on the platform and amid reports that the show’s audience numbers have slipped compared with its breakout early run.
Netflix Commits to Another Chapter of ‘The Night Agent’
The renewal means the political action series led by Gabriel Basso will continue its run despite a noticeable cooling in viewership. Season 3 premiered on Netflix on February 19 and reportedly failed to match the massive audience surge that propelled the first season into the streamer’s rankings of most watched debuts. Even so, the title remains a recognizable brand for the platform and continues to draw solid critical feedback.
Created by Shawn Ryan and based on Matthew Quirk’s novel, the series centers on FBI agent Peter Sutherland, who becomes entangled in conspiracies reaching the highest levels of the U.S. government. What begins with a rarely used emergency phone inside the White House evolves into a sprawling web of espionage and political intrigue, with Peter forced to navigate dangerous intelligence networks while protecting key witnesses.
When the series launched in March 2023, it quickly became one of Netflix’s most immediate success stories. Within days it ranked among the service’s biggest premieres, prompting an unusually swift renewal. The show continued to build its audience through its second season in 2025, which expanded the story beyond Washington and introduced new global threats tied to the covert Night Action program.
Season 3 raised the stakes again, introducing new power players in Washington and a deeper look at the secretive intelligence operations surrounding Peter’s work. While the newest episodes have earned positive reviews, industry watchers have pointed out that audience interest appears to have cooled compared with the show’s early surge, making Netflix’s quick Season 4 renewal notable.
For Netflix, the move signals continued confidence in one of its most recognizable political thrillers. With Peter Sutherland’s story still unfolding and the Night Action program offering plenty of narrative territory, the streamer seems willing to keep the line open a little longer.
