“ Kaos ” is one of Netflix ‘s latest major hits that presents a modern reinterpretation of Greek mythology, exploring themes of power, corruption and the interactions between mortals and gods, all with a satirical and dark twist.
Created by Charlie Covell, known for “The End of the F***ing World”, the series stars Jeff Goldblum and follows three humans who discover their connection to the gods through an ancient prophecy.
Despite its star-studded cast and ambitious narrative, the fantasy comedy failed to captivate enough viewers. Just a few weeks after its release, it was announced that the show would be canceled after a single season. Here’s why…
Why did Netflix cancel the series Kaos?
“Kaos” has joined the list of successful television shows that ended abruptly after Netflix canceled it, despite its popularity and being one of the most-watched shows globally on the platform.
The series, which reimagined Greek mythology with Jeff Goldblum as Zeus, received positive reviews, boasting a 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.5 on IMDb. Nonetheless, Netflix decided not to renew it, leaving fans surprised.
So far, the streaming giant has not provided an official explanation for the cancellation, leading to speculation. Some believe the high production costs, due to the elaborate mythological settings and star-studded cast, played a role.
Although the creator, Charlie Covell, had planned three seasons for the fantasy comedy, the project remains incomplete. Aurora Perrineau was the one who leaked that they would not return for a second season.
The actress who portrays Riddy was the one who initially informed fans about the show’s cancellation. However, shortly after posting on Instagram, she deleted the post, leaving no trace of what had transpired.
It remains a mystery, but she may be right about the show’s end, as viewership data released by the service was not particularly impressive during the show’s first few weeks on the platform.
