Season 3 of Bridgerton brought fans the highly-anticipated love story between Colin, played by Luke Newton, and Nicola Coughlan‘s Penelope. However, the pair weren’t the only characters with major developments, as Francesca, Benedict and Eloise all had important plot points during the season.
Eloise, played by Claudia Jessie, has become one of the most-beloved characters of the romantic drama, arguably just behind Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) and Kate (Simone Ashley). But, while fans enjoy watching the married life of Kate and Anthony, who could still return for Season 4, questions about Eloise’s future romance are still swirling.
As many viewers know by now, the series is based on Julia Quinn’s novels, which each one following a specific sibling. So, while the show has made significant changes to some of the original story’s plots so far, including Francesca’s love interest, here’s what we know about Eloise’s story. At least, according to the books and how the series can tackle it.
Bridgerton spoilers: Eloise’s romantic interest has been hinted in the series
As we said, there have been some changes from the books to the series. However, everything seems to indicate that Eloise will still have the same love interest as in the novel: Sir Phillip Crane, played by Chris Fulton. In the series, we saw him in the first season, as the brother of George Crane, Marina’s first love interest.
In Season 1, Phillip Crane appears to tell Marina that George was found dead in the battlefield, and he asks her to marry him to fulfill his duty to not leave her alone and pregnant. In Season 2, he appears again, as Colin is visiting Marina one last time.
In the book, Eloise and Phillip start a friendship after she writes him a letter to give him her condolences due to Marina’s death. After writing for months, he proposes to her and she goes to his house to see if she would be interested in him. After that, the two of them form a strong bond, despite their early differences.
What has Claudia Jessie said about Eloise in Season 4?
One o fthe main reasons why Eloise has resonated so much with fans is that she represent modern values in the series. She isn’t interested in marrying, but instead is keen to change women’s place in society. However, after Season 3, we see her cuestioning herself as, in her words, she loses “another friend to marriage.”
In that sense, she decides to join Francesca on her trip to Scotland. However, according to what Jessie told Tudum, Eloise’s decision doesn’t come out of spite or hurt, but rather for her longing of freedom.
“It’s only further confirmation that she is who she is and she’s going to try and be that person. That’s why she’s going away,” Jessie told Tudum. “It’s a nice opportunity for her to develop a bit more independence,” she added.
Meanwhile, showrunner Jess Brownell told Variety that she doesn’t think Eloise is ready for a romance just yet. She said that she sees her as a “a nice counterpoint on the show in terms of us sending a message that not everything always has to be about your boyfriend or girlfriend, or about marriage.” However, she wants to tell Eloise’s story in a “proper way.” So, fans, you have a lot to look forward to.
