According to Variety, the company’s latest earnings call offered one of the first official updates on “Man of Tomorrow,” James Gunn’s upcoming sequel, with CEO David Zaslav revealing that he recently got an early glimpse of material from the film while outlining the studio’s broader roadmap for the DC Universe.
James Gunn’s ‘Man of Tomorrow’ Gets an Early Vote of Confidence
While discussing Warner Bros. Discovery’s upcoming slate, Zaslav shared that he had recently seen images from “Man of Tomorrow,” the sequel to 2025’s “Superman,” and left little doubt about his enthusiasm. “I saw some pictures yesterday that looked amazing,” he said, adding that the project “looks fantastic” and that the company is “super excited about it.”
The executive also highlighted Gunn’s commitment to the production, noting that the filmmaker spent his birthday on set and has been putting in exceptionally long days to keep the movie moving toward its scheduled July 9, 2027 release. The sequel follows a successful relaunch of the iconic hero, as “Superman” introduced David Corenswet‘s Man of Steel and launched the DC Universe’s first chapter. The title grossed more than $618 million worldwide and received largely positive reviews from critics.
Zaslav’s comments extended beyond Superman, offering reassurance that other high-profile DC projects continue to move forward. He confirmed that Matt Reeves is still “working very hard on Batman,” referencing the long-awaited sequel to “The Batman,” while also pointing to “Clayface” and HBO’s “Lanterns” as key pieces of the studio’s expanding lineup.
Taken together, the update paints a picture of a studio eager to emphasize momentum after the successful launch of its new cinematic universe. “DC feels very good, and we have a robust pipeline,” Zaslav said, crediting Gunn and DC Studios co-head Peter Safran for steering the franchise’s next phase as multiple films and series continue to take shape.
