After the great success of the Uncharted video game and its movie adaptation, it was expected that Sony would want to continue expanding the franchise on the big screen, so they announced its highly anticipated sequel.

The continuation of the adventure and science fiction story has already begun its production. According to Variety, the film is one of the studio’s upcoming projects, and the script is nearly finalized.

Steven O’Dell, an executive at Sony Pictures, confirmed the news during a presentation at the 2024 CineEurope fair. Despite being in development, the drama still doesn’t have an official release date.

Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg will return

That’s right, Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg will return to portray Nathan Drake and Victor Sullivan, who were the protagonists of the first adaptation that took place in 2022. So far, they are the only cast members confirmed.

After two years since its theatrical release, it was confirmed that both stars have joined the project again, and it’s likely that they will also serve as producers, but this has not yet been announced.

Will the characters have any changes in the sequel?

There won’t be too many changes in the main characters, but Mark Wahlberg confessed that Victor Sullivan will be more faithful to the video games. He will have a charismatic personality and a great sense of humor once again.

The actor, who announced that he will retire from the industry in a few years, confessed, “I’ve heard many different ideas. I know someone has written a script, and they’re still working on it”.

In the first movie, we met Sully without a mustache, which caused a little upset among fans as he didn’t resemble the character too much. However, this has changed, and he will look more like the game’s hero.

When could Uncharted 2 be released?

Well, since there isn’t a scheduled start date for filming and even less a release date, it is still a mystery. But if we speculate, it could be that the sequel arrives sometime in 2026, as it will take a long process.
