According to People, the production will have completed 2,178 performances and more than five years on Broadway by the time it closes.
How ‘Six’ Became a Broadway Hit
Created by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, “Six” reimagines the six wives of Henry VIII as performers competing in a pop concert. Rather than treating the queens as supporting figures in Henry’s story, the musical gives each woman her own voice and perspective before ultimately bringing them together as a group.
The show’s journey began at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2017, where it was developed by students from Cambridge University. Its early success led to productions in London’s West End and a North American production before the musical reached Broadway.
“Six” began Broadway previews in February 2020, but its planned opening was interrupted by the COVID-19 shutdown that closed theaters across New York. The production eventually resumed previews in September 2021 and officially opened at the Lena Horne Theatre on October 3 of that year.
The musical has since expanded far beyond its original Broadway production, with touring and international productions in countries including South Korea, Japan, Spain and China. A filmed stage production featuring the original West End cast also reached cinemas in the UK and Ireland in 2025 before its U.S. theatrical release in August 2026.
The Broadway production’s closing date arrives shortly after “Six” marked its 2,000th performance on August 17. That milestone made it the longest-running production in the history of the Lena Horne Theatre and placed it among Broadway’s longest-running shows overall.
