Born into Hollywood royalty, Selznick’s father was “Gone With the Wind” producer David O. Selznick, and his mother was Irene Mayer Selznick, a prominent stage producer.
If the Mayer name rings a bell, it’s because his grandfather was none other than Louis B. Mayer, one of the most influential figures in entertainment history as the co-founder of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, the company that forever changed the seventh art.
While Daniel Selznick worked to preserve the legacy crafted by his family, his contributions extended beyond traditional production, for which he held six credits. He served as the longtime director of the Louis B. Mayer Foundation, where he played a key role in overseeing the construction of the facility’s Louis B. Mayer Theater in 1967.
