The actor revealed his interest during an appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he discussed the recently announced reimagining of John Carpenter’s cult sci-fi classic and made it clear that he intends to reach out to the filmmaker.

Morgan’s first instinct was to contact Snyder after learning about the new project. “Don’t think I’m not texting now or calling him. I am,” the actor said.
There is one obvious complication. Snake Plissken was originally played by Kurt Russell, and Morgan acknowledged that the new version could call for a younger actor. “I think that Snake will probably be a little younger than I am,” he said. Morgan nevertheless believes there are other possibilities within the film, adding that “There’s some roles in there” for him.
The idea of Morgan taking on an older version of Snake also came up during the interview. When Horowitz suggested that audiences might respond to a more weathered take on the character, Morgan replied, “Grizzled Snake wouldn’t be bad, by the way.”
“Escape from New York” is one of his all-time favorite picture, and Horowitz jokingly suggested that he could start wearing one an eyepatch and send Snyder selfies to test the look. “I might. That’s not a bad idea,” the performer replied.
The new “Escape from New York” is being developed as a theatrical reimagining of Carpenter’s 1981 film, with Snyder attached to write and direct. The original followed Snake Plissken, a former Special Forces operative forced into a dangerous mission after Manhattan had been transformed into a maximum-security prison. No details about the new movie’s story or cast have been announced.
