Meanwhile, Deadline reported on August 12 that Jared Padalecki (Supernatural, Walker) has been casted as a guest star for a three-episode arc. The actor will play Camden, a SoCal firefighter and maverick with a surfer swagger who is a force to be reckoned with and immediately recognizes Bode’s (Thieriot) raw talent. His character could launch an upcoming spin-off.

What is Season 3 about? Showrunner teases the next installment

According to showrunner Tia Napolitano, cited by TVGuide, the next season will be special because Bode will finally become a full-time firefighter and be a normal 30-year-old man. “He can have a lot more fun. He can have some joy at Smokey’s and go to Jake’s apartment and do things that a normal 30-year-old man can do,” she said.

“It’ll feel very refreshing and a breath of fresh air because Bode hasn’t been able to do those things for basically our entire show,” she added. However, that doesn’t mean that the show won’t have a focus on Three Rock and the inmates there.

“We will continue to see the inmates on calls. These programs are always sort of in question,” Napolitano told TVGuide. “What does it mean to work there? What are inmates getting to learn? We’ll see their connection to 42. It’ll still be part of the show’s DNA, but we might tweak it a little bit.”
