It’s been two years since Season 2 of Euphoria ended, and the highly-anticipated third season has been delayed several times due to re-writings, the Hollywood strikes and the complicated schedule of the show’s in-demand cast. Another blow for the series’ production was the death of Angus Cloud, who played Fez, in 2023.

The teen drama, created by Sam Levinson, was first released in 2019, and it quickly became one of the most-watched shows on HBO. The second season, which premiered in 2022, duplicated the viewership from the previous season according to the network, and it became the most-talked about series on X (Twitter) in the past decade.

It has also earned Zendaya two Primetime Emmy Awards as Lead Actress in a Drama Show. However, while still praised, the show has been criticized for its depiction of teenagers, as well as substance abuse and other strong themes. Season 2 also divided fans about the storyline, but the team is still committed to completing the show.

Meanwhile, Variety reports that HBO is committed to give all the actors and crew a serious plan to start filming in 2025 by October of this year. According to the outlet, Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney and Jacob Elordi are committed to finish the show with Sam Levinson.

What would be the plot of Season 3 about?

So far, there’s no official synopsis for the season. However, Variety reports that the first plan for the script was set five years after the finale of Season 2, meaning that the characters would be adults. In the first version, according to the report, Zendaya’s Rue was relegated to the background and was supposed to be a “private detective.”

However, HBO reportedly vetoed this decision. Meanwhile, Zendaya reportedly pitched an idea in which Rue becomes a pregnancy surrogate. However, HBO didn’t like the scripts because “simply didn’t feel like the show tonally.”

Cast: Who is set to return to Euphoria?
