<p>Set in the early seventies, the story follows journalist <strong>Ward Jansen</strong> (McConaughey), who returns to his Florida hometown to investigate the case of <strong>Hillary Van Wetter</strong> (John Cusack), sentenced to death for killing a corrupt local sheriff in 1969. Ward is aided by his brother <strong>Jack</strong> (Zac Efron) and <strong>Charlotte</strong>, an attractive woman (Nicole Kidman) who has fallen in love with the condemned man without ever having seen him.</p>
