2024 has kicked off with a bang, and not only are there months of pure releases ahead, but the countdown for Mean Girls has already begun. The new version of the classic that has left a mark on an entire generation is back with the iconic Plastics. Reneé Rapp has been chosen to bring Regina George to life.

This time, Angourie Rice replaces Lindsay Lohan in the main role of Cady Heron. Several cast members will be reprising their familiar roles, including Tina Fey, who also serves as the writer for both the original and the upcoming new musical, set to be released on January 12 in the United States.

It’s not the first time the story has been brought to life after the popular title made a trend; in 2019, it was adapted for the Broadway stage. It was there that Rapp first portrayed the beloved villain. Both the audience and critics enjoyed her performance so much that she ended up earning the role in the film adaptation.

When will Mean Girls be released on Paramount+?

After a long wait, fans finally have the Plastics back. The Mean Girls musical will arrive on Paramount+, but the exact date has not been confirmed yet, as it is set to premiere in cinemas worldwide first. What is the new version of Mean Girls about?

The new version of Mean Girls differs from the original in some aspects, such as the simple fact that it is a musical. However, the story still follows the script by Tina Fey, who was also responsible for the plot of the 2004 film.

This time, the narrative follows Cady Heron, who becomes a hit with the Plastics, the A-list girl gang in her new school, and makes the mistake of falling in love with Aaron Samuels, the ex-boyfriend of the Plastics’ alpha, Regina George.

Several of the iconic actors will be back for this new production, including Fey herself and Tim Meadows. Bringing the main characters to life are Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Jon Hamm, Avantika, Christopher Briney, Ashley Park and Auli’i Cravalho.
