Strange Way of Life” was not only one of Pedro Almodóvar‘s latest masterpieces in recent months, but it has also gained great popularity for its LGBTQ storyline and for bringing together two of the most iconic actors.

Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us and Drive-Away Dolls) brings to life Silva, a cowboy who crosses the desert on horseback to visit his friend Sheriff Jake, played by Ethan Hawke (Before Sunrise trilogy and The Purge)

The story unfolds 25 years later, as they celebrate their reunion, but the next morning, Jake reveals that the reason for his visit is not to reminisce about their friendship, and the drama escalates quite quickly.

The drama, directed and written by Pedro Almodóvar, features an extensive stellar cast that has made the story so popular not only among viewers but also among social media users.

An atypical but successful western

Pascal and Hawke starred in this unconventional yet successful dramatic western some time ago. While many have loved it, it cannot be denied that it has been a bold move by the director and it has worked out wonderfully.

During Dua Lipa‘s podcast, At Your Service, the filmmaker spoke with the singer and talked a bit about Strange Way of Life, where he ensured that the key characters that make up a film of this style are present.

Additionally, Almodóvar described it as “a queer Western, in the sense that there are two men and they love each other. It’s about masculinity in a deep sense because the Western is a male genre.

What I can tell you about the film is that it has a lot of the elements of the Western. It has the gunslinger, it has the ranch, it has the sheriff, but what it has that most Westerns don’t have is the kind of dialogue that I don’t think a Western film has ever captured between two men”.
