If when Twilight premiered in 2008 you were Team Edward, let me tell you that we have great news for you. Netflix has confirmed that it is developing an animated series adaptation of “Midnight Sun“.

The novel, which was released in 2020 and follows the bestselling success of the original saga, will be a new version of the first installment, but this time, it will be entirely from the perspective of the iconic vampire.

The author herself, Stephenie Meyer, will serve as executive producer along with her partner from Fickle Fish Films, Meghan Hibbett, and other industry figures. Sinead Daly (Tell Me Lies and TWD: World Beyond), will be the screenwriter.

What is Midnight Sun about?

The story of Midnight Sun follows the events of the first book in the Twilight series but narrates what Edward Cullen is thinking and feeling while the plot unfolds from Bella Swan’s perspective.

It delves deeper into Edward’s thoughts and emotions, his internal conflicts and how he perceives Bella and her surroundings. Additionally, it explores his struggle to maintain control and the tension between his desires and his morality.

Will Robert Pattinson return as Edward Cullen?

Honestly, it is unlikely that Robert Pattinson will return as Edward Cullen. The production will be animated, so the popular actor would need to lend his voice to bring the character who launched him to fame back to life.

Although it has not yet been confirmed who will be the narrator of the story, we might assume that Jake Abel (Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief) is one of the options, as he provided his voice for the 2020 audiobook.

When might Midnight Sun be released on Netflix?

The official release date for “Midnight Sun” remains top secret, but since it is still in development by Netflix, we might assume it will debut on the platform sometime after mid-2025.

Variety reported that the project was in its initial phase in April 2023 by Lionsgate Television and Michael Burns, Vice President of Lionsgate, confirmed in March that it would be an animated series.
