While Tom Cruise is primarily associated with the “Mission: Impossible” and “Top Gun” franchises, “Jack Reacher” is also a beloved work in his repertoire. It’s no surprise to see it entering the U.S. Top 10 on Netflix more than a decade after its release, according to Flix Patrol.
Based on Lee Child‘s 2005 novel “One Shot”—the ninth book in the series, which now has 28 installments—the movie was brought to the big screen by Christopher McQuarrie, Cruise’s frequent collaborator in directing.
With all the right elements in place, Jack Reacher is often considered an underrated gem in Cruise’s filmography, especially when compared to the broader success of his other works.
‘Jack Reacher’ climbs to the Top 10 on Netflix in the United States
Despite a rocky start for the action genre in the early 2010s, “Jack Reacher” managed to distinguish itself from the excess of repetitive films on the topic. Now, it’s making a comeback to its glory, ranking #5 on the U.S. Netflix chart and climbing!

With minimal effort, it has surpassed hits like “Land of Bad” and “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” two of July’s biggest trends on the platform. Currently, it’s in a tight race with “Tarot” for higher placement.
The plot follows Jack Reacher, a former military police officer and homicide investigator who works independently. He decides to investigate a sniper accused of killing five people in a shooting after the sniper demands Reacher’s presence when caught.
While Tom Cruise delivers a standout performance, the supporting cast, including Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, Werner Herzog, and David Oyelowo, also shines.
The picture was a box office success, grossing $218.3 million against a $60 million budget. It led to a sequel, “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” which saw less success both commercially and critically. Although Christopher McQuarrie and Cruise have frequently expressed interest in continuing the franchise, no specific plans have been announced yet.
