The story is based on an article from The Washington Post written by Eli Saslow, which recounts the true story of a woman struggling with drug addiction seeking rehabilitation with the help of her mother.

The plot follows Molly (played by Mila Kunis), who battles heroin addiction and seeks help to stay sober for four days to receive an injection that will block the drug’s effects.

Her mother, Deb (played by Glenn Close), is willing to support and assist her in this difficult process, despite their strained relationship due to Molly’s years of addiction.
