Season 4 of The Witcher is closer, as Netflix has finally revealed the first look of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia. The Australian actor, brother of Chris Hemsowrth, is taking over the role after Henry Cavill left the series.
Hemsworth, known for appearing in “The Hunger Games” saga, as well as the romantic drama “The Last Song,” will play the part for the series’ two final seasons. Some of the 34-year-old actor’s latest roles also include the series “Most Dangerous Game,” and the rom-com “Isn’t It Romantic?”.
In October 2022, Netflix surprised fans of the series by announcing that Cavill would be leaving the show after its third season, which aired in two parts during the summer of 2023. This news disappointed many fans, who continue to speculate about Cavill’s departure. The primary reason appears to be scheduling conflicts.
Why did Henry Cavill leave The Wicther?
The announcement of Cavill’s departure from “The Witcher” coincided with the news that he was going to reprise his role as Superman for DC, five years after his last outing as the hero in “Justice League” (2017). However, his possible return was axed, after James Gunn decided to move on with a new interaction of the character, now played by David Corenswet.
At the time, Cavill said that his time in the series “has been filled with both monsters and adventures, and alas, I will be laying down my medallion and my swords for Season 4,” before welcoming the “fantastic” Liam Hemsworth to the show.
“As with the greatest of literary characters, I pass the torch with reverence for the time spent embodying Geralt and enthusiasm to see Liam’s take on this most fascinating and nuanced of men,” he added. Meanwhile, Hemsworth said in a statement that he was “over the moon” for the opportunity, and praised Cavill, saying he was “honored” to follow his footsteps.
There’s been also rumors that Cavill had creative differences with the showrunner and producers of the show. It’s known that the actor was a fan of the original books and, according to ScreenRant, showrunner Lauren D Hissrich has even said that she avoids writers who were familiar with the source material.
