Raising Voices” is the new Spanish series on Netflix that has been causing sensations among platform users, not only worldwide but also in the US. It is quite strong and emotional, especially among the younger audience.

The episodes of the drama were carried out by three directors: Eduard Cortés, Marta Font Pascual and David Ulloa, who have joined the thriller created by Miguel Sáez Carral, a popular Spanish-speaking author.

Known as “Ni Una Más”, the show brings together multiple well-known stars from recent months, such as Nicole Wallace and Gabriel Guevara, who worked together on My Fault, and Clara Galle, the protagonist of Through My Window.

Is ‘Raising Voices’ based on a true story?

No, “Raising Voices” is not based 100 percent on real events, but the story comes from a book and is inspired by real issues such as sexual assault and harassment that affect many young women today.

Therefore, it could be considered a hybrid production in that case. The drama aimed to address critical issues through its narrative, providing a fictional yet heartfelt exploration and reflection.

On what book is ‘Raising Voices’ based?

The Netflix series is an adaptation of the book “Ni Una Más“, written by Miguel Sáez Carral and published in 2021. The novel is indeed based on real cases, as it tells the story of real-life women.

José Manuel Lorenzo, one of the creators of the drama, spoke with El Diario de Sevilla and clarified that the production does not seek to delve “into morbidity or frivolity,” nor does it aim to lecture or give lessons on the topic itself.

“We are not apostles, we do not want to indoctrinate anyone. We want to tell an experience that comes from that novel and tell it in the best possible way, entertainingly, and also to help as many people as possible and not trivialize the issues we address”, he asserted.

Alma’s fake Instagram profile name was real

There are some details in the series that may have gone unnoticed by many, but one of them is based on real events, and it’s about the username that Alma chose for her fake Instagram account.

The character played by Nicole Wallace (Prime Video’s My Fault and Excision) and creates a fake social media account under the name @Iam_colemanmiller, where she posts about the abuse she suffered.

Although the story itself is not true, the username DID correspond to two real-life women who wanted to report an assault, Daisy Coleman and Chanel Miller, according to the newspaper El Comercio.
