Universal Pictures and Syncopy have announced that the blockbuster will debut on digital platforms for rent and purchase on November 17, 2026, with a physical 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release landing on retail shelves the exact same day.
The November release date comes precisely 120 days after the film opened in theaters on July 17. By preserving a full four-month window of theatrical exclusivity, Universal and Nolan mirrored the rollout strategy used for 2023’s Oppenheimer. The generous window allowed the sprawling three-hour spectacle to maximize its run on premium screens worldwide, cementing Nolan’s firm commitment to the traditional cinema experience before offering fans the chance to own the film at home.
That patient theatrical strategy paid off in unprecedented fashion. The Odyssey has grossed roughly $1.352 billion worldwide, officially surpassing Deadpool & Wolverine to become the highest-grossing R-rated film in cinematic history. Shot using custom IMAX film technology across international locations, the epic also generated a record-shattering $257 million from IMAX auditoriums alone, making it the highest-earning IMAX release ever recorded.
Adapted from Homer’s foundational Greek poem, the 172-minute film tracks King Odysseus (Matt Damon) on his perilous ten-year voyage back to Ithaca following the fall of Troy. Backed by a star-studded ensemble that includes Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous, Nolan’s visceral direction brought classical antiquity to life with groundbreaking practical effects and thunderous scale.
While experiencing The Odyssey on a multi-story screen remains an unforgettable event, the upcoming digital and physical home release offers audiences a welcome chance to digest the densely layered narrative—and pause for a quick intermission during its massive runtime—when it arrives in home theaters on November 17.
