HBO's Lanterns with Aaron Pierre: Cast, plot and all about the new DC series

Aaron Pierre has been one of the chosen actors to star in the new DC Comics series that will arrive on the Max catalog in 2025. Here, check out everything you need to know about the adaptation of "Lanterns".

Lanterns” is the new TV action drama produced by Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios that will be added to the Max catalog, making it one of the most anticipated titles among superhero fans.

The project has received a straight-to-series order from HBO, indicating strong confidence in the initiative. It is positioned as a foundational piece of the new DC Universe, set to launch next summer alongside “Superman: Legacy”.

The first season will feature Chris Mundy as showrunner, known for his work on “True Detective” and “Ozark”. He will also co-write the script alongside Damon Lindelof and Tom King, a prominent comic book writer.

Who make up the cast of Lanterns?

Although as of mid-October the cast is only comprised of two actors, it has been confirmed who will be the leads in the upcoming TV live-action, and they are two quite familiar faces in the entertainment industry.

Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge, Old and Mufasa: The Lion King) has been chosen to portray John Stewart, a character who has been popular in DC’s animated series but will be making his first live-action appearance.

Kyle Chandler (Bloodline) will take on the role of Hal Jordan, known for being a leader among the Green Lanterns. Fans have welcomed the casting additions enthusiastically, as they expect the two to have good chemistry together.

What will the Lanterns series be about?

The series will have a raw, detective-like atmosphere, focusing on Jordan, who reluctantly becomes the mentor of a younger Lantern, John Stewart. Together, they follow clues that lead them to a dark mystery.

When will Lanterns premiere on Max?

So far, there is no official release date for “Lanterns”, as filming has not even begun; it is currently in pre-production and casting. It is only known that the series will arrive in the summer of 2025, along with other DC Comics titles.
