Warner Bros. Discovery has laid out an ambitious plan to revive the Harry Potter saga, this time as a television series that will join the Max catalog, making it one of the studio’s most expensive productions.

One of the most notable aspects is that the author of the series, J.K. Rowling, will be involved as an executive producer, ensuring that the TV show remains true to her books and is executed in the best possible way.

Although the British writer has faced controversy in recent years due to her views on gender issues, Warner executives have reaffirmed their commitment to the adaptation and their desire to preserve the original essence of the story.

What will the Harry Potter series be about?

The upcoming reboot aims to explore each of the books in greater depth over seven seasons, dedicating one season to each novel. This approach will allow for a more detailed storytelling experience than the original films provided.

Who are the cast of the Harry Potter series?

The new and young actors have not been officially confirmed yet, but rumors suggest there will be a conscious effort to make the casting more diverse compared to the original eight films.

The casting process has begun, and HBO launched an open casting call in the UK and Ireland, allowing plenty of time to find the actors who will portray Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

The notice revealed when filming for the fantasy drama will begin, as it mentioned that the young talents who apply must be between 9 and 11 years old by April 2025, when production is set to start.

One of the most significant rumors is that Cillian Murphy (Oppenheimer and Peaky Blinders) might be in line to play the role of Voldemort throughout the seven seasons confirmed for the television show.

On another note, the role of Dumbledore was offered to Jared Harris, son of Richard Harris (who portrayed the first Dumbledore in the films). However, he quickly declined and issued a statement expressing his views.

No, thank you. Besides, I mean, why do it? I don’t understand. The films were fantastic, leave them alone“, commented the Chernobyl actor when asked if he would be willing to appear in Max’s new project.

When will the Harry Potter series premiere?

Deadline reported in September 2024 that the first season of the Harry Potter series is set to debut on Max between late 2026 and early 2027, meaning there are still a couple of years to wait.
