Beloved actress Shannen Doherty, who was best known for her work in the iconic series ‘Beverly Hills 90201’ and ‘Charmed,’ passed away on Saturday, July 13, after battling with cancer. She was 53 years old.
Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. In 2017, she revealed that she had gone into remission but by 2019 the cancer returned. In 2020, she made public her diagnosis of metastatic stage 4 cancer. In 2023, she announced that the cancer had spread to her brain and that she had undergone surgery.
However, amid her illness, the star also was in the middle of a legal battle with her husband, Kurt Iswarienko, as they were divorcing. However, in June 23, in an episode of her podcast “Let’s Be Crystal Clear”, she opened up about the proceedings, giving her side of the story.
Shannen Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko’s relationship and divorce
Doherty started dating the celebrity photographer in 2008, and they tied the knot in October 2011, US Weekly confirmed at the time. While the pair were together during the majority of her illness, in April 2023, Doherty filed for divorce and claimed that Iswarienko had been unfaithful.
The pair were in the middle of their divorce proceedings when the actress died on July 13, 2024. In June, she filed legal documents accusing Iswarienko of “intentionally delaying settlement in hopes that I will not survive the divorce proceedings.”
She had requested a monthly spousal support payment of $15,343 retroactive to June 1, 2024, as well as payment for her attorney’s fees and an additional contribution to her accounting fees and costs.
Doherty has not worked since 2022, and her income in 2024 so far has been $25,732,90, according to the declaration. She received the majority of her income through residuals from “Charmed.” However, the TV show wasn’t going to be availble on any major streaming platform, leaving her without an important income.
What did Doherty say about her divorce with Kurt Iswarienko?
During her podcast episode of June 23, Doherty opened up about the divorce, saying that it wasn’t the “most pleasant thing” and adding that there were “many different nuances that people will never understand, and to take something just from a brief so that you can break a story is super annoying to me.”
She also said that she find it “really hurtful” the speculation regarding their relationship, adding that “unfortunately there was no way for me to do it more privately,” she added. “It is what it is.” However, she said that she wasn’t ready to talk about what happened between the couple.
“That’s been exhausting, because obviously a divorce is not easy, especially when you really loved someone,” she said. “I did love my husband, and when you get so hurt by their actions, you just feel betrayed and like a sucker,” she said.
