American Idol has been active for several years, but in the last few seasons, it has become even more interesting, especially due to the diverse array of talents that have graced the stage and faced the iconic trio of judges.
Katy Perry is not the only star of the show; the panel also includes Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. However, it seems like the group could split up at any moment, as the singer confirmed her departure after Season 22.
According to the singer herself, she is ready to step away from the reality show after seven seasons as a judge. However, this will be after the new installment, which will have its grand premiere on February 18 (check the schedule here).
Katy Perry quits American Idol for music
That’s right, Katy Perry is ready to step down from the singing competition, and during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, the singer confessed that everything indicates that Season 22 will be her last as a judge as she wants to focus on other projects.
On Monday night, she said, “I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol”, and while explaining her decision, she revealed that she wants to “go see the world” and even release new music, concentrating on expanding her career in the industry.
The significant announcement took place after the host asked her how much longer she would be present on the ABC show, as she joined in 2018 and has not missed an episode since then.
“It’s connected me to the heart of America, but I feel like I need to go and feel that pulse at my own heartbeat. Maybe I’ll come back if they’ll have me someday“, she commented and then added, “It’s going to be a very, very exciting year for all pop star girlies”.
The Daily Mirror published an article confessing that the singer would have left the show to expand her family, in addition to ABC not wanting to increase her salary to $30 million for another season of Idol.
How important was Katy Perry to American Idol?
Katy Perry was a significant figure for American Idol during her time as a judge. Her addition to the judging panel in Season 16, which began in 2018, revitalized interest in the program and attracted a new audience.
Her presence was highlighted by her unique style and entertaining approach on the panel. Her honest comments, sense of humor, and active participation in the show added a fresh and entertaining element, making her one of the favorites.
In addition to being a judge, she took on the role of mentor and advisor for the contestants. She offered valuable guidance based on her own experience in the music industry, adding an educational component to her involvement.
But above all her roles within the reality show, she developed a positive dynamic with the other judges, contributing to a balanced ensemble. Despite this being her last season, she will always be remembered as one of the most iconic and highest-paid judges.
