Millie Bobby Brown isn’t slowing down anytime soon, as the star is set to appear in several upcoming projects. One of her most anticipated movies is “Damsel,” which will premiere on Netflix on March 8, 2024. And the streamer has finally released its first trailer.
The film, directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, stars Brown as the titular Damsel, Princess Elodie. However, don’t expect to see her following the clichéd tropes of the fairytale genre, as she will become a warrior to recover her life.
Aside from Brown, the star-studded cast of the film also includes Angela Bassett (Black Panther), Ray Winstone (Black Widow), Nick Robinson (Maid), Brooke Carter (The Peripheral) and Shohreh Aghdashloo (House of Sand and Fog).
In Damsel, Millie Bobby Brown fights a dragon
According to the trailer, Princess Elodie agrees to marry a Prince (Robinson), to fulfill her royal duty. While her step-mother (Bassett) warns her that she doesn’t trust him or his family, she still goes on with the wedding… Only to be cast into a cave guarded by a dragon.
“Damsel” certainly joins other films and series which seek to subvert the classic trope of “damsel in distress,” such as the newest versions of “Snow White” starring Kristen Stewart and Lily Collins (awaiting for Rachel Zegler’s take), as well as Hulu’s “The Princess” (starring Joey King).
According to Collider, director Fresnadillo praised Bobby Brown for her performance, calling it “exceptional.” He said that “She understood that this needed to be an extreme survival experience. And in order to make that believable, you have to convey suffering and pain. This is a movie about a transformation – about a girl becoming a woman – and you need to really feel the intensity of it,” as the outlet reports.
Bobby Brown is used to play strong characters
Bobby Brown rose to fame as Eleven in “Stranger Things,” a role she will reprise in the upcoming fifth and final season of the series. The last chapter of the sci-fi show is currently filming, and it’s expected to be released next year.
Meanwhile, she will also reprise her role as Enola Holmes for the upcoming third movie of the trilogy. In the film series, she portrays the titular character, a young detective who also happens to be the little sister of Sherlock Holmes (played by Henry Cavill).
