Netflix’s Spanish series have become a global phenomenon over the years. Some of them include “Money Heist,” “Badlands,” “Valeria,” and, of course, “Elite,” created by Carlos Montero. Now, Montero is looking for another worldwide hit with the medical drama “Breathless,” or “Respira” in Spanish.
Judging from the insanely good-looking cast, which includes Elite’s star Manu Ríos, the series will follow the tradition of other series of the genre, such as “Grey’s Anatomy” and “ER,” in combining romantic entanglements and medical emergencies.
In an interview with El Español, Montero said that he and the team “want to recover the great hospital dramas but with a fiercely contemporary look that we will push to the limit.” Here’s all you need to know about this highly-anticipated production.
What is ‘Breathless’ about?
As with Elite, Montero will once again put social issues at the center of the narrative. This time, the series follows Biel, a doctor who has been devoted to work in a public hospital. However, when the medical staff starts a strike that devoid the hospital of even minimal service, Biel and his colleagues will be caught in the crossfire.

What has Montero said about the series?
“When you see Manu, Blanca, Aitana, Ana, Xoan, Borja, Abril… working as doctors at the Joaquín Sorolla, I think you will want to come to this hospital if only to be treated for a cold,” Montero said to Netflix.
He also explained that they recreated all the spaces of a hospital in “an ambitious and realistic way so that the Sorolla becomes one of the reference hospitals in today’s fiction. We are looking forward to sharing it with you,” he added.
Is there a release date?
