Dune: Messiah is in development at Legendary
Deadline confirmed that Dune: Messiah, the third installment of the franchise based on Frank Herbert‘s novel, is already in development. Denis Villeneuve and Legendary are spearheading the project.
Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet will return to lead the cast of the drama, which will also include Rebecca Ferguson as Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck and Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan.
The movie will be based on the second book and will continue the story of how young Paul Atreides ends up conquering the galaxy. It is still not known when it could arrive on screen, as the director confessed that he wants to take a break.
Undoubtedly, filming this type of drama is not easy and requires a lot of preparation, time and dedication. That’s why the Canadian filmmaker assured that he would take some time away from after the last two installments.
Anya Taylor-Joy and Florence Pugh will have major roles
Denis Villeneuve recently gave an interview and revealed that Anya Taylor-Joy (The Menu) and Florence Pugh (We Live in Time) will have recurring roles in the third installment, being quite central to the film’s story.
He mentioned that Princess Irulan and Alia Atreides will play prominent roles, “in a similar way to how Chani (Zendaya) takes on a central role in the second film”. So, we’ll be seeing much more of them on screen alongside Timothée.
When will Dune: Messiah start filming?
The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Dune 3 is scheduled to enter production during the summer of 2025. So, it won’t be too long before filming begins and new updates emerge.
