After starring and producing the Oscar-nominated 1 billion-grossing ‘Barbie’, Margot Robbie is expected to come back to the big screen with “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey.” And there’s finally a release date for the project.

The movie is being described as “an imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.” With Robbie, Oscar-nominated Colin Farrell, who is reprising his role as The Penguin in the HBO’s series this fall, will also star.

Kogonada, known for helming movies such as “Pachinko” and “After Yang,” directed the film from a script by “The Menu” screenwriter Seth Reiss. So, when is this romantic drama coming to the big screen? Here’s what to know.

‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’ is coming out in May

The movie is coming to theaters on May 9 over Mother’s Day weekend, according to Sony Pictures’ release schedule. The studio is marketing the film as its “next female event movie,” following the release of the highly-controversial “It Ends With Us.”

Apart from Robbie and Farrell, the movie also stars Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater also star in the romantic fantasy. “Every once in a great while in this job you read a script so special and original, that you fly to the last page, inspired and uplifted,” Rothman, the studio’s motion picture group chairman said at the time.

Robbie, who is expecting her first child with husband Tom Ackerley, is keeping herself busy, not only as an actress but also as a producer. Apart from “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” she is set to appear in “Avengelyne,” as well as producing the upcoming Monopoly and The Sims films.
