Game of Thrones has not only changed the fantasy genre and dragon-related series, but it has also provided a new vision for television show, marking a before and after in history.
Some time ago, the author of the books, George R. R. Martin, confirmed that spin-off series were being developed to expand the universe of the show that has obsessed thousands of fans.
A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight is one of them and is currently in development, already having its two protagonists, Dexter Sol Ansell and Peter Claffey. Here, check out everything about the prequel…
Who makes up the cast of The Hedge Knight?
The full cast has not yet been revealed, but during the afternoon of April 5th, it was confirmed which actors have been chosen as protagonists. They are none other than Dexter Sol Ansell and Peter Claffey.
Young Dexter will bring Egg to life, while Peter will take on the role of Dunk. Despite Ansell being only 10 years old, he has already been in multiple major productions, which have been global successes.
One of these is The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, where he portrayed young Coriolanus. Additionally, he also has other projects set to premiere in 2024, such as the drama Here with Tom Hanks.
On the other hand, Claffey has a lower profile and a shorter career. The actor has been involved in series like Bad Sisters, Wreck and Harry Wild. We will also see him soon in the movie Compound Fractures.
What is The Hedge Knight about?
The story of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight will focus on the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and Aegon V Targaryen, based on the Dunk & Egg narrative created by George RR Martin.
The plot will unfold almost a century before the events of the main series, Game of Thrones. This means we are likely to see the origins of some important characters
When asked about what the first season of the spin-off would be about, the author of the saga didn’t hesitate to respond and provide an overview of what awaits devoted Game of Thrones fans. He said:
“If you don’t know the characters, Dunk & Egg sounds like a sitcom. Laverne & Shirley. Abbott & Costello. Beavis & Butthead. So, no. We want ‘knight’ in the title. Knight and knighthood are crucial to the themes of these stories”.
When will The Hedge Knight be released?
The prequel, which is part of a series of short novels preceding ‘A Song of Ice and Fire’, does not yet have a scheduled release date on HBO’s Max. This is because filming has not yet begun.
It is estimated that the first season of the highly anticipated fantasy and action TV show could arrive by late 2024 or early 2025, but nothing is confirmed at this time.
Ira Parker, Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis will join the writer as executive producers, so the program is progressing at a good pace and we could have updates at any moment.
