Robert Pattinson has never been one to follow the standard Hollywood playbook. Whether he’s inventing bizarre pasta recipes mid-interview or playfully trolling journalists, his profiles are legendary for their chaotic energy.
His latest cover story for GQ is no exception. While promoting his role in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming ancient epic The Odyssey, Pattinson delivered a masterclass in refreshing honesty, pulling back the curtain on studio politics, his accidental movie marathon, and his hilariously specific wardrobe pitches.
The Only Man to Say “No” to Blind Faith: Asking Nolan for the Script
When Christopher Nolan calls, Hollywood generally drops everything and signs on the dotted line without asking a single question. For The Odyssey, stars like Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland famously jumped at the chance to join the massive ensemble blindly. But not Robert Pattinson.
Pattinson revealed that he was the solo holdout who explicitly requested to actually read the script before committing to the mythic blockbuster. Nolan’s reaction to the request was pure amusement:
“You want to read it? Everyone else just said yes,” Nolan replied.
Pattinson’s caution paid off, landing him a major role in the visual epic, though his independent streak clearly left a lasting impression on the notoriously meticulous director.
Accidentally Booking “A Lot of Movies” During The Batman Delays
Fans have been anxiously awaiting Pattinson’s return to Gotham City for The Batman: Part II. Originally scheduled much earlier, Matt Reeves’ highly anticipated detective-noir sequel has faced major writing and production delays, pushing its official theatrical release out to October 1, 2027.
When the superhero sequel first hit the pause button, Pattinson figured he would just find a quick indie project to pass the time. Instead, the timeline stretched so far that he accidentally became one of the busiest men in Hollywood, landing roles in Die My Love, The Drama, Prime Time, Dune: Part Three, and Nolan’s The Odyssey, among others.
“I’m like, ‘Well, I’ll do another movie in between.’ And then I ended up doing a lot of movies,” Pattinson joked regarding the extended hiatus.
Fortunately for fans of the Caped Crusader, the wait is officially nearing its end. Pattinson confirmed in the profile that he is finally back in training and preparing for an upcoming “11 weeks of nights” shoot in London as cameras finally get ready to roll on the sequel.
The Pitch for “Leopard Underpants” in The Odyssey
Of all the revelations in the GQ interview, nothing quite matches Pattinson’s creative vision for his wardrobe in The Odyssey. While the film promises a grounded, visually breathtaking take on Homer’s ancient Greek poem, Pattinson desperately wanted to sneak a highly specific, flashy modern flair into his period-accurate attire.
During his wardrobe department fittings, the actor campaigned hard to wear custom, glittering underwear beneath his classical tunic.
“I kept saying at my costume fitting, I was like, ‘I really want to have leopard underpants.’ I want to have it just coming out of my skirt, a little sparkly fur.”
While he didn’t explicitly confirm whether Nolan actually allowed the leopard-print fur to make the final theatrical cut, fans will undoubtedly be scanning the bottom of the IMAX screens this July to see if the actor’s wild fashion dream became a reality.
