There has been speculation regarding Britney Spears’ possible new album, which would be her first one since “Glory” (2016). However, the singer has addressed the rumors on an Instagram post claiming that she will “never return to the music industry” and calling the news “trash.”

Page Six reported early Wednesday (Jan. 3rd) that Spears could potentially work alongside Charli XCX and Julia Michaels for a new record. According to the outlet, the project was “only starting to take shape.”

But Spears denied any speculation, writing: “They keep saying I’m turning to random people to do a new album … I will never return to the music industry.” However, she revealed something that fans weren’t aware of and that is the fact that she has been writing for other artists.

Britney Spears claims she is a ghostwriter

In the caption to an Instagram post of the Italian Renaissance painting “Salome Bearing the Head of St. John the Baptist,” Spears added that when she writes, she does it for “fun” or “for other people.”

“For those of you who have read my book, there’s loads that you don’t know about me … I’ve written over 20 songs for other people the past two years !!!” she continued. “I’m a ghostwriter and I honestly prefer it that way,” she added.

A ghostwriter is someone who writes for other artists without attaching their name to projects. Spears does have credits as a writer for songs for Selena Gomez (Whiplash, co-written with Greg Kurstin, and Nicole Morier), as well as for her sister Jamie Lynn (Follow Me, for the sitcom Zoey 101).

Of course, she also has writing credits for several of her own hits including “Alien,” “Everytime,” “Me Against the Music” (which she performs with Madonna), “Touch of My Hand”, “Rock Me In” and more.

Spears also denies her book was sold illegally

In the same caption, she also denied that her best-selling memoir, “The Woman in Me,” was released without her approval. “That’s far from the truth,” Spears wrote at the end of the post. “Have you read the news these days ??? I’m so loved and blessed.” The book sold over 1.1 million copies in its first week.
