Glen Powell described how filming with IMAX cameras made the project truly immersive, saying “When I flew with them… I couldn’t believe the perspective, I was like ‘I don’t how to describe this to people, I hope I get to show someone what this is like’”.

The actress, who also served as executive producer, has revealed that she was very involved in the marketing strategy of the film, including leaning in into those rumors of her and Powell having a real-life affair.



“That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit — and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart,” Powell told The New York Times.

“Honestly, the chemistry I saw between Syd and [Glen]… people always talk about chemistry, that crazy word, but the first time Sydney arrived in Australia that Sunday, straight from Italy after filming her movie ‘Immaculate,’ which is this Italian Vatican movie. She came to Sydney on Sunday, they sat where we were staying, and they started rehearsing, and in about a minute, I thought, ‘Oh my God, thank God. This is amazing,’ and nothing else mattered except these two, and then we got to work”, Will Gluck confessed.

Later, when asked about the script he co-wrote with Ilana Wolpert, he spoke about sharing the film with both actors and the back-and-forth he had regarding the story. There, he confessed:



“I heard there was a script that Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell were attached to, and I always wanted to work with them. I called them and said, ‘What’s going on with this?’ We all met, talked for a long time, and then said, ‘What if we do this? We’d like to do it this way.’ So we all joined hands and did it the way we wanted, and we got to work. Everything came together pretty quickly“.

“The romcom has now mostly gone to the streamers, which is completely fine, but I think it’s taken away from the cinematic theatrical part where we don’t just buy this as comfort food. 



The romcoms you and I grew up on were actually great movies. I watched My Best Friend’s Wedding the other day and it’s so fun. It’s things like that, where you’re not just making a romcom because that’s a genre that needs to fill out a piece of an algorithm, but putting care into into it”.



<h2>What did the critics say about Anyone But You?</h2>



The criticism received by the new romantic comedy has been diverse, and some of the writers working for major outlets such as Variety or IndieWire have been quite harsh but objective.



David Ehrlich wrote for IndieWire: “Anyone But You may not be funny or memorable enough to make romantic comedies matter again as a genre, but it might bring us a little closer to that goal precisely because it doesn’t burden itself with that objective. This is nothing more than old-fashioned frivolity with freshly created stars and a luxurious supporting cast“.

Anyone But You streaming: When is the rom-com with Sydney Sweeney released?

<a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/glen-powell">Glen Powell</a> is determined to keep climbing the Hollywood ladder with several upcoming projects. The <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/top-gun">“Top Gun: Maverick”</a> star is coming from the success of his newest rom-com “Anyone But You,” in which he acts opposite <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/sydney-sweeney">Sydney Sweeney.</a>



With the film, directed and written by Will Gluck, grossing over $100 million worldwide against a budget of only $25 million, it’s safe to say that Powell proves he is a bankable name. 



This year, he will appear in two other <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/movies">movies</a>. The first one is “Hit Man,” an action-comedy-romance directed by Richard Linklater. And then, he will give a try to the adventure genre with a sequel to ‘Twisters’ opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones. But that’s not it.

<h3>Huntington (TBD)</h3>



Powell is also set to appear in this revenge thriller, directed by John Patton Ford, inspired by the 1949 classic black comedy, Kind Hearts and Coronets. The movie follows the actor as Becket Redfellow, the heir to a multi-million dollar fortune who decides to speed up the inheritance process by bumping off the family members in between him and the cash.



<h3>Top Gun 3 (TBD)</h3>



After the confirmation of another Top Gun film, Powell is also set to reprise his role as Hangman. “I don’t know when I’ll be going back… I’m sure there is a jet waiting for me sometime in the future,” he told Variety.

<h3>Chad Powers (Series) </h3>



According to The Hollywood Reporter, Powell will star in this upcoming Hulu comedy series as a disgraced college football quarterback who disguises himself and walks on to another school’s team.



He co-created the series with Michael Waldron, the creator of Loki and writer of the next two Avengers movies. It’s based on an episode of ESPN+’s Eli’s Places, in which former New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning goes undercover as a walk-on prospect named Chad Powers at Penn State.



<h3>The Running Man </h3>



Powell is set to headline Edgar Wright’s “The Running Man,” stepping into a role originally portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger in the 1987 cult classic. This dystopian action movie is adapted from a novel of the same title by renowned horror author Stephen King, initially released under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. In October 2024, it was confirmed that the remake will hit theaters on November 21, 2025.



<h3>Monsanto (TBD) </h3>



According to The Hollywood Reporter, Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie, and Laura Dern are set to headline John Lee Hancock’s upcoming film “MONSANTO.” The movie recounts the real-life tale of attorney Brent Wisner (played by Powell), who courageously tackled a seemingly impossible case against a major U.S. chemical corporation, advocating for Dewayne “Lee” Johnson (portrayed by Mackie).



<h3>‘Heaven Can Wait’ (TBD)</h3>

The acclaimed director JJ Abrams is undertaking a new project, a nearly secret movie that will star Glen Powell. This week, it was announced that <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/jenna-ortega">Jenna Ortega</a> has entered negotiations to be his co-star.



Warner Bros. is the studio developing the title, and although few details are known about the plot or production itself, Deadline reported that it will not be a time travel story. The filmmaker wrote the script and Bad Robot will produce it.

Speaking to Netflix Tudum, Linklater said that the film is “about a lot of things” but, ultimately, it is “just a guy who gets in a little too deep. His passions lead him in a direction where he’s deceiving someone he’s in love with, and being someone else. They have to deal with those repercussions.”



While the film is inspired by a real life character, the late Gary Johnson, who worked as a fake hit man for the police, the story is fictionalized and the plot twists are totally the invention of the screenwriters.
