Taylor Polidore Williams (Divorce in the Black and Snowfall) and Crystle Stewart (For Better or Worse and Acrimony) star in the story as Kimmie and Mallory, two women with very different realities whose paths become intertwined.

Is ‘Beauty in Black’ based on real events?

The seriesBeauty in Black” by Tyler Perry is not based on a true story. It is a work of fiction created by the director, known for his storytelling style that often includes themes of family drama, relationships and personal growth.

The talented writer, actor and filmmaker stated that he was inspired by the “dual strip clubs around” in Atlanta in the 1990s and some real-life hair care dynasty families. Perry further told Tudum:

The hair care business here is huge [and] Magic City is huge, and I was like, ‘What happened if those worlds collided — the stripper world and this hair care business?’. Never ever underestimate the power of the underdog“.

The first season of the TV show follows two women with opposite lives who come into contact. One struggles to survive after her mother forces her to leave, while the other runs a successful business.
