Brad Pitt Teams Up with David Ayer and J.K. Simmons for Alaskan Survival Drama ‘Heart of the Beast’
Coming off an intensive two-and-a-half-year stretch of continuous production—the longest streak of his six-decade career—Brad Pitt is preparing audiences for his next major cinematic release: the grueling survival drama Heart of the Beast.
Written and directed by David Ayer (Fury), the film stars Pitt as an ex-Special Forces soldier flying a light aircraft over the Alaskan wilderness alongside his former military K-9, a German shepherd named Odin. When the plane crashes in a remote, frozen wasteland, man and dog are forced to navigate brutal elements and psychological isolation to survive.
A “Love Story” Set in the Wild
Despite its rugged setting, Pitt emphasizes that the heart of the project isn’t merely physical survival, but deep emotional bonding under extreme duress.
“Beast is a love story,” Pitt said of the project, which also features Oscar winner J.K. Simmons in a pivotal supporting role. “J.K. Simmons! Another great actor! Fuckin’ Whiplash! What an incendiary performance.”
Drawing Inspiration from Kate Winslet
To capture the emotional depths required for Heart of the Beast and his subsequent thriller The Riders, Pitt revealed he studied recent high-caliber television performances, specifically pointing to Kate Winslet’s work in Mare of Easttown and The Regime.
“She just commits, man. I love her commitment,” Pitt said of Winslet. “I’ve tried to put in that level of commitment, certainly in The Riders, this last thing I did, coming off watching Kate.”
Heart of the Beast is scheduled to arrive in theaters this fall.
