The Dune franchise has been revitalized after Denis Villeneuve took charge of releasing new films with a stellar cast, led by young industry icons like <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/zendaya">Zendaya</a> (Challengers) and <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/timothee-chalamet">Timothée Chalamet</a> (Bones and All).



This week it was confirmed that <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/max">Max</a> was developing a new installment of the saga, but it would be a series and would serve as a prequel, set many years before the birth of Paul Atreides.



During the afternoon of Wednesday, May 15, the platform released the first teaser of what’s to come, which is not only filled with great talents like Tabu and Emily Watson but is also one of the biggest projects of 2024.



<h2>What is Dune: Prophecy about?</h2>



Action, adventure and <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/drama">drama</a> are some of the elements that shape the story of the new <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/dune">Dune</a> prequel, which focuses on the life of the Bene Gesserit, a secretive society of women with special abilities.



The Bene Gesserit are masters in the art of political and social manipulation. They use their skills to influence interplanetary events, often acting from the shadows to achieve their goals.

The episodes will be set 10,000 years before the events of the films, and the narrative is based on the novel “Sisterhood of Dune” by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.



According to its official synopsis, the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/series">series</a> “follows the sisters of House Harkonnen in their struggle against the forces threatening the future of humanity and establishes the legendary sect known as the Bene Gesserit”.



<h2>When is Dune: Prophecy coming to Max?</h2>



The next <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/tv">TV</a> show from the universe recently adapted by director Denis Villeneuve will arrive sometime in 2025, as confirmed by various entertainment outlets such as Variety and Fotogramas.



Before “Dune: Prophecy” became a reality, the project had been baptized with another name, “Dune: The Sisterhood”. This was because it was a bit more faithful to the title of the novel on which it is based.



<h2>Dune: Prophecy boasts an all-star cast</h2>



Undoubtedly, the prequel to the iconic franchise not only has a great team behind the camera but also features some of the most talented stars in the industry so far…



Tabu, the Indian mega-star, has been chosen to lead the plot as one of the protagonists, Sister Francesca. Alongside her, Emily Watson will be present as Valya Harkonnen and Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino.



The list is quite extensive and includes multiple well-known names, but among the most notable are Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart, Camilla Beeput as Reverend Mother Dorotea and Sarah Lam as Hagal Truthsayer.

As expected, not only has the arrival of the third <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/movies">movie</a> of Dune been confirmed, but it has already begun development. Following the success of the second part, which became the worldwide No. 1, Dune: Messiah will arrive.



Denis Villeneuve will continue the story from where it left off and will once again be responsible for adapting the screenplay while directing the film. The sequel continues to perform well at the box office, having already grossed $630 million.

<h2>Dune: Messiah is in development at Legendary</h2>



Deadline confirmed that Dune: Messiah, the <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/movies/dune-how-many-movies-will-there-be-denis-villeneuves-plans-for-sequel-20240303-SPEN-9267.html">third installment</a> of the franchise based on Frank Herbert‘s novel, is already in development. Denis Villeneuve and Legendary are spearheading the project.

<a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/zendaya">Zendaya</a> and Timothée Chalamet will return to lead the cast of the drama, which will also include Rebecca Ferguson as Jessica, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck and <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/florence-pugh">Florence Pugh</a> as Princess Irulan.



The movie will be based on the second book and will continue the story of how young Paul Atreides ends up conquering the galaxy. It is still not known when it could arrive on screen, as the director confessed that he wants to take a break.



Undoubtedly, filming this type of <a href="https://spoiler.bolavip.com/en/topic/drama">drama</a> is not easy and requires a lot of preparation, time and dedication. That’s why the Canadian filmmaker assured that he would take some time away from after the last two installments.



<h2>Anya Taylor-Joy and Florence Pugh will have major roles</h2>



Denis Villeneuve recently gave an interview and revealed that Anya Taylor-Joy (The Menu) and Florence Pugh (We Live in Time) will have recurring roles in the third installment, being quite central to the film’s story.



He mentioned that Princess Irulan and Alia Atreides will play prominent roles, “in a similar way to how Chani (Zendaya) takes on a central role in the second film”. So, we’ll be seeing much more of them on screen alongside Timothée.



<h2>When will Dune: Messiah start filming?</h2>



The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Dune 3 is scheduled to enter production during the summer of 2025. So, it won’t be too long before filming begins and new updates emerge.



The specialized outlet also reported that acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve is currently working on the script and finalizing the cast, as most of the stars have several projects on their to-do list.

One of the best aspects of the film, which received universal acclaim from both critics and audiences, are the impressive locations. While the film is set in a distant future, production took place in real locations, especially in the desert of Abu Dhabi and Jordan (Wadi Rum desert).

Villeneuve explained to UPI that “Scenes in the desert were sometimes shot in different locations. Sometimes it’s 12 or 14 different locations.” And, there were several challenges that came with shooting in the desert.

<h2>All Dune: Part Two filming locations: Abu Dhabi and more</h2>



In the same interview, Villeneuve explained that in order to be able to get the shot they wanted, cinematographer Greig Fraser used computer simulations to predict position of the sun at specific times to get the desired shot. 



Apart from shooting in Abu Dhabi and Jordan, filming for “Dune: Part Two” also took place in Budapest and Italy. According to Villneuve, production designer Patrice Vermette and his team constructed other sets, such as the Fremen’s rebellion base hidden in the rocks of Arrakis.



“You felt that you were inside the skeleton of some kind of huge animal,” Villeneuve said. According to Screen Rant, in the first movie, the United Arab Emirates doubled as the rock shelters used by the Fremens.



Per Collider, another location for Dune: Part Two was the city Altivole in the province of Treviso, Italy. According to IMDb, this location served the interiors of the Corrino household. To Villeneuve, it was important actors could be in real locations.

“They can take everything around them for granted. It’s there, it’s real and they can just focus on their relationships,” he told UPI. While the result is impressive, “Dune: Part Two” had a relatively modest (at least compared to other films of this scale) budget of $190 million.

The domestic tally was $81.5 million, while the international’s grosses were $97 million. <h2>Will there be a third Dune movie?</h2>



Villeneuve, who has written and directed the first two films, divided the first book into two parts. But the Canadian director has already confirmed that he has an interest in adapting the second book, “Dune: Messiah.” While Warner Bros. has not yet given the official greenlight for a third film so far, the director has said that he is working on the script.

In an interview with Time, Villeneuve said that “The screenplay is almost finished but it is not finished. It will take a little time […] There’s a dream of making a third movie […] it would make absolute sense to me.” Another member of the crew has also started working on the potential sequel, as composer Hans Zimmer has also started working on the score for the adaptation of “Dune: Messiah.”



Talking to Variety, Zimme revealed that he hasn’t stopped writing music for “Dune” because during the second day of shooting “Part Two,” “Denis wordlessly comes in and puts “Dune: Messiah” on my desk, and I know where we’re going and I know we’re not done,” he said.



However, Villeneuve also told Time that if “Messiah” moves forward, it would be his last movie for the Dune franchise. “’Dune Messiah’ should be the last ‘Dune’ movie for me,” he revealed to the publication.



<h2>How many ‘Dune’ books are there?</h2>



While Villeneuve would be done with “Messiah,” Herbert’s original series continues with five sequels to “Dune”: “Dune Messiah,” “Children of Dune,” “God Emperor of Dune,” “Heretics of Dune” and “Chapterhouse: Dune.”
