Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry have been friends for over a decade, so it was expected that they would have great chemistry on screen. However, not many believed that The Union would achieve SUCH success on Netflix.
The actors are largely responsible for the film continuing to be the most-watched title in the global catalog. Director Julian Farino took the time to highlight this but also explained why they haven’t shared a kiss.
Their characters, Mike McKenna and Roxanne Hall, express their feelings as the plot progresses, but it’s evident from the first minute that where there was fire, ashes remain. Here, find out the reason why they haven’t kissed…
Why Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry don’t kiss in The Union?
During an interview with Variety, Julian Farino left no stone unturned and finally spoke about why Mark Wahlberg and Halle Berry never kiss in The Union, which is surprising given the incredible chemistry between their characters.
The director explained that there is a reason for this, and that “it was heavily debated“. Apparently, it is to leave fans and viewers wanting more, as the film could potentially end up as a trilogy if all goes well.
“We took the relationship to a certain point, and then I think you need to leave a lot of room to explore. Netflix, when we started, told us: ‘You need to think of this as a possible idea for three films. So if the audience is left wanting to see a kiss, we’ve probably done well, or at least that’s my opinion“, he said.
Of course, the actors didn’t stay silent either and echoed the filmmaker’s logic about skipping the kiss. The actress who plays Roxanne Hall said, “Once they kiss, it’s over. We hope that if we make a second installment, the chase will continue“.
The actor who plays Mike McKenna also added: “If we manage to move forward and do something more, I imagine there will be a lot more than just a kiss. But, you know, we’ll have to wait and see what happens“.
